A Historic Milestone
Vietnam 50th anniversary war: On April 30, 2025, Vietnam marks 50 years since the fall of Saigon and reunification. A huge military parade in Ho Chi Minh City and fresh appeals for national unity and peace marked the milestone.
Calls for Reconciliation
Speaking at the celebration, Communist Party General Secretary To Lam highlighted the country’s progress since the end of the war. He urged a continued commitment to peace and inclusivity, stating:
“All the Vietnamese are the descendants of Vietnam. They have the freedom to seek happiness and love in this nation, as well as the right to live and work.
His comments, which emphasized reconciliation over military victory, represented a change in Vietnam’s place in the world today.
Parade and Participation
Roughly 13,000 people took part in the parade, which included Vietnamese troops, militias, and foreign soldiers from China, Laos, and Cambodia.Floats included Ho Chi Minh pictures and the Lac bird, which are emblems of Vietnamese ancestry. In addition to picnicking and lining the streets, many lingered for the drone and fireworks shows.
Vietnam’s Changing Global Role

Concerns over Vietnam’s future involvement in the United States have been aroused by the ambiguity surrounding America’s strategic objective in the Indo-Pacific.
Tensions in the South China Sea
Vietnam’s balancing act between the U.S. and China remains complex. Ongoing maritime disputes with China have made Hanoi a key regional player in Southeast Asia’s strategic calculations.
