UN food program cuts: WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration announced Tuesday. That it had mistakenly terminated some life-saving UN food program contracts, reversing a portion of its sweeping foreign aid cuts.
State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce acknowledged that “a few programs that were cut were not meant to be cut” and said the U.S. restored funding to certain countries. She did not name the affected countries or clarify the process behind the error.
The reversal follows an AP investigation revealing the U.S. had cut funding to UN World Food Program (WFP) emergency efforts in 14 nations, including Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen. This aid cut put millions who rely on it at risk.
Humanitarian Fallout and Global Concern
The World Food Program, which did not immediately comment, had described the funding cuts as a “death sentence” for people in hunger-stricken regions. The terminated programs were among the last remaining humanitarian projects managed by the now-dismantled U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Jeremy Lewin, a top official in Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), reportedly ordered the cuts. As part of a broader USAID purge, officials abruptly ended over 60 aid contracts across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and the Pacific Islands.

Despite Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s public pledges to continue emergency aid. These terminations raise concerns about internal discrepancies and possible poor management in the administration’s new assistance policy framework.
