Four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs has signed a three-year, $69 million deal with the New England Patriots, including $26 million guaranteed, sources report. After suffering a season-ending ACL injury in Week 8 while playing for the Houston Texans, Diggs is on track to return for Week 1 of the upcoming season.
The Patriots grab the #1 receiver.
After Chris Godwin re-signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Patriots, who had previously targeted Godwin in free agency, shifted their attention to Diggs. By adding Diggs alongside quarterback Drake Maye, who is in his second season, the team will attempt to increase its offensive potency.
Diggs has joined the Patriots’ receiving corps, which also now features young players Kayshon Boutte and DeMario Douglas, veteran Kendrick Bourne, and free-agent signing Mack Hollins.
Stefon Diggs’ Impact
Before his injury, Diggs was ranked seventh in the NFL in receptions with 47 catches and second on the Texans with 496 receiving yards. When targeting Diggs, quarterback C.J. Stroud completed 73% of passes to him, giving him a passer rating of 104.
A History of Achievement
Diggs, a fifth-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2015 NFL Draft, has built an outstanding 10-season NFL career with 857 receptions, 10,491 receiving yards, and 71 touchdowns.
During his time with the Buffalo Bills, he became one of only four players in NFL history to record four consecutive 100-catch seasons, alongside Antonio Brown, Davante Adams, and Marvin Harrison.
Looking Ahead
With Stefon Diggs leading the receiving unit, the Patriots are making a clear push for offensive dominance. All eyes will be on Diggs as he aims to make a successful comeback in Week 1.
