Deadly Russian Missile and Drone Attack Strikes Kyiv

Russian missile drone attack on June 6, 2025, in Kyiv killed 4 and injured 20, city officials confirmed. As emergency personnel combed through the destruction, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that search and rescue efforts were still underway at many locations.

The attacks were part of a larger coordinated overnight strike hitting at least six regions throughout Ukraine. Explosions rocked Kyiv for hours, igniting fires and causing significant damage in residential districts despite efforts by Ukraine’s air defense systems to intercept incoming missiles and drones.

Impact on Civilians and Emergency Reaction

Three emergency personnel were among those slain while providing relief to victims in Kyiv. Fourteen-year-old Vitalina Vasylchenko of Kyiv, who was shocked but alive when an explosion destroyed her window, recalled the terror.

In addition to damaged infrastructure, such as metro rails connecting stations in Kyiv, local authorities reported fires in multi-story buildings and industrial regions.

Wider Damage Across Ukraine

The missile and drone barrage also targeted Ternopil, Poltava, Khmelnytskyi, Lviv, and Chernihiv regions. Ternopil saw 10 injured, including emergency workers, while Poltava suffered damage to administrative buildings and homes. Khmelnytskyi reported harm to residential properties and vehicles.

Ukraine’s air defense shot down multiple missiles and drones, with the Lviv region intercepting three Russian missiles overnight.

International Reactions and Ongoing Conflict

The attack came amid heightened international tension. Ukraine’s human rights chief condemned the assault as a violation of human rights and called for a strong global response.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks suggested a pause in intervention, advocating for Ukraine and Russia to “fight for a while” before negotiating peace. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz urged Trump to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the violence.

Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have downed 174 Ukrainian drones and three missiles in early Friday counterattacks.
