As the building trembled, two medical staff members, Xiong Jielan and Li Xiaoqing, can be seen on tape reacting swiftly.

Despite the intense shaking, neither the nurses nor the newborns suffered injuries.
“We Have the Ability to Act, But They Don’t”
Speaking to local media, Jielan described the moment:
Nurses protect newborns during Myanmar’s deadly earthquake: “I just wanted to protect my colleague and the babies.” The shaking was too strong, and the baby in my arms was scared.”
Xiaoqing echoed similar sentiments:
“Our goal was to protect the newborns because, after all, we have the ability to act, but they don’t.”

Because survivors are staying in outdoor camps amid harsh weather, the earthquake has sparked worries about disease epidemics. While officials evaluate the damage, relief activities are still ongoing.
