Kyren Lacy dies before NFL Draft, Amik Robertson shares text.

Kyren Lacy

Kyren Lacy, a 24-year-old former LSU football standout, tragically died in Houston, Texas, just two weeks before the NFL Draft.

Legal concerns surrounding a fatal car accident that occurred in December 2024 coincide with Lacy’s death, which has been officially ruled a suicide. The accident led to the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall, and Lacy was scheduled to appear before a grand jury on April 14. He had been released on $151,000 bond.

A Friend’s Final Words

Detroit Lions cornerback Amik Robertson, who grew up with Lacy in Thibodaux, Louisiana, posted their last text messages—offering a touching tribute and revealing the emotional strain Lacy faced in recent months.

“I need you to trust the process & put it in God’s hands… It’s all a learning process. Keep faith brodie,” Robertson texted on January 11, just after an arrest warrant had been issued for Lacy.

Lacy responded, “All love brother ❤️,” and later added, “Appreciate dat bro needed to hear dat!! They gone feel us!”

Robertson replied with a handshake emoji and the phrase, “yk it.”

A Promising Career Cut Short

Lacy began his college career with the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns before transferring to LSU in 2022. Over three seasons with the Tigers, he tallied 112 receptions, 1,692 receiving yards, and 16 touchdowns.

With 58 receptions for 866 yards in his senior year, Lacy led LSU in touchdown receptions with nine.

He recently took part in LSU’s Pro Day on March 26, 2025, when he displayed his abilities one more time and was regarded as a strong NFL Draft candidate.
